I often hear the following statements by photographers starting their business:
– How much should I charge for my services?
– I don’t know what I’m doing, I can’t charge.
– When should I start charging?
– I lack confidence, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I should accept money.
In this free video, I share a super quick pricing tip when you’re starting your business.

Please don’t take anything that I say too seriously. If you’ve seen me present in person, then you know that I use hyperbole when I speak to make a point. I don’t really think anyone is an idiot, but it is silly to turn away money.

Thank you! Thank you Heather for this video!! I have always felt my passion for taking newborns photoa was my ministry to capture those precious first moments for my friends! First my husband and then my friends started to insist I start charging for my services. At first, I started to charge $50.00 and now I charge $100. Someday, I pray that my hobby will be a business but, for now I am happy with where I am. Thank you so much for this video again!
Such truth! It’s so easy in the begining to listen to what every other photographer says about what your pricing should be. It’s easy to feel like you’re killing the market if you don’t charge xxxx or that you’re short selling yourself. Because many new photographers surround themselves with other photographers (a great way to learn) they end up flip flopping on price a lot. It’s so hard to justify a higher price when you are getting no business. The reality is that businesses are built not magically created. Starting out at a lower price and adjusting as you gain experienc/knowledge is the smartest way to go about pricing. And turning down money is crazy. 🙂 Thanks for the post.
